Bump in my Blog World

The problem with me and blogs is that if I don't blog as soon as I hear of something, I lose the drive to do it. But I don't have time to do it at work. But that's when I hear of things, like the Supreme Court case about eminent domain. The City of New London, Connecticut wants the right to use eminent domain as a way to take away property from seven homeowners in order to hand the land over to a private developer to build a marina and health club.

Now, you would think that there wouldn't be much question of whether this was proper use or not. However, the wise people of the world have managed to muddle the question all the way to the Supreme Court. Here's what NPR has to say on the matter.

If the Supreme Court rules in favor of the city, I will.... I will.... raise a ruckus!

Seizing land to build a school, that's one thing. That I can get behind. But a marina? Oh please.

Did you see the article about it in Slate? It's here: http://www.slate.com/id/2113868/

I don't have anything intelligent to say about it -- I scanned the article because I like the Supreme Court Dispatches, but I can't really comment on the case. It is interesting, however, that the government could probably replace anything with a mall and make more money. A good arguement.
