Yes, it's true, Tony Bennett now belongs to me. Or at least, his pictures does. AOD is moving into her office to make room for the new director (who, incidentally, mentioned that she once went to school with a "Muffy" and a "Biff"), and she has bequeathed to me a picture of Tony Bennett from the 10 year Anniversary Gala. Boy I wish I could have been around to see that! Wow. It's quite a story, the way AOD and our CEO managed to pull off such a massive event. As they both say, "If we had known how difficult it should have been, we never would have tried it. But we didn't know anything, and somehow, it worked."
Ah, the Age of Innocence....
I'm working on revamping the CEEH "Tour our Homes" website. Here's the current page and here's the prototype. I'd love comments if anyone wants to give them. I'm not sure why I'm bothering with this because I really need to just completely dump this page and start over (too much text and scrolling!) but I figure this will tide me over until I have time (my list of new responsibilities just keeps growing. I like it--makes me feel integral to the organization and they offer me new challenges--but it's going to cut into my webpage time).
I would love to rant about more Supreme Court Decisions--specifically "No you can't sue the Police for not doing their job thus leading to the death of your children." That's just super. They'll say yes to sweeping rights of eminent domain (and yes, I know I side with the conservatives--although probably for different reasons) but no to enforcing established police duties. I'm really revved up about this case because I just my new issue of Mother Jones which has a big spread about women's rights, domestic violence and what seems to be the whittling away of established programs to protect women.
It's 6:30 and I'm still at work because I can't bare the thought of facing the heat. Even at 6:00am it was already so humid that one lap around the pond (walking, not running) had me bathed in sweat. I should have jumped in the water with all the ducks. I would have felt cleaner...
I woke up obscenely early this morning (5:00am) because that's when the electricity came back on, and my fan came whirring back to life. We're supposed to get 24 hours advanced notice when Keyspan plans outages to do repairs and upgrades (it's part of life in J.P.), but as usual we got much less notice. It was after 8:00pm before I got the flier in the mailbox (it was not there at 4:00pm when I picked up the rest of the mail). We all scrambled to find batteries for our alarm clocks (I decided to use my cell phone alarm). "Well," said C., "there's a nine volt in the fire detector..." Luckily she found her travel alarm before resorting to robbing the detector.
So we all had to sweat through the night without fans (we don't have any air conditioning anyway). I was doubting the utility of the fan until it was gone. It does work! Five am it was resurrected, and I basked in it's light breeze until I decided to solace outside. "Surely,"I thought, "It must be cooler outside. Our stone building has trapped in all the heat. Surely at this time of morning it must be cooler."
Eegads no.
But now it's 6:30 and I'm ready to go home and try and eat something (like ice cubes, maybe). And then I will trudge around the pond again. Sometimes there's a nice breeze by the pond, and I'm not going to find yet another excuse not to exercise. Last time I did that, I went weeks without taking an after-work or before-work walk. I'm not going to let that happen.
Heat be damned! Not that I'm begging for winter.... Please weather god, don't think that!

I think your new version shows some real improvements. The use of the colored boxes with quotes really breaks up the page and makes it more readable. However, I'm still not actually reading anything about the houses -- just kind of scanning the page and looking at the pretty pictures. It's too early to think of how you could redo things, but I think your instincts are right -- it probably would be better to start over with a new page and chunk the information better.
