After days--nearly a week--of misery, refugees in New Orleans are finally getting out. The country finally got its act together and called in the calvary--its modern equivelent, anyway. In fact I'm wondering if my long-lost friend (who's now in the army apparently) has wound up there.
Does anyone else remember Bush's announcement shortly after the hurricaine that calling in armed forces and other reinforcements would not be necessary? I remember him saying that, and I remember yelling back at the TV. Idiot. Apparently I really need to get my ass to Washinginton DC--does no one there know what they're doing?
And can't we send Bush to do some of the brush clearing he's so fond of doing in these "war zone" areas?
And as the immediate, unconscionable suffering of New Orleans's citizens comes to end, the nation as a whole should mourn the passing of Chief Justice Rehnquist. Although his views were far more conservative than mine, I had great respect for him as a judge.
