"Home in a Box"

How cool is this? Habitat for Humanity - my favorite organization, is rapidly responding to the Katrina catastrophe. Already plans are in being formed for long-term recovery efforts. Operation Home Delivery will allow communities all over the country to help hurricane victims in a hands-on fashion. Homes will be built by volunteers in one location and then broken down into components (wall units, etc) these "homes in a box" will be shipped to affected areas to be built by volunteers on-site.

It's a monumental task. Even at Habitat's reduced price, 100 million dollars will only build about 1,500 here in the U.S. so a lot of collaboration will need to take place (note that 100 million dollars in some third world countries could build homes for every family in that country).
