Anyway ... There are, of course, necessities I need to get. Like a kitchen knife ... do you know I don't own a knife sharper than a butter knife? Obviously that will have to be fixed. I need some Tupperware, a decent saucepan (I have the $5 special from Famliy Dollar I bought a few years ago, but it's ... well, it was $5. I think that says it all).
Then there are things I want. Like the really cool metal cut-out sign that says "Delicious" in a fun blue script. It's for a sale at a small funky shop in JP. I want to hang it in the kitchen and at least pretend I can make delicious food.
To match my "delicious" sign, I'd like the cobalt blue whistling teakettle from Le Creuset (shown here in Terra Cotta - also a lovely color).
It would also be nice to have the matching cobalt blue stockpot for when I make soup (yes, I do make soup from scratch, thank you very much).
For my floors, I would like to order a few area rugs from Natural Area Rugs (cleverly named website, no?) The sisal rug (with wide mitered edging) will be nice and crisp-looking in dining room. The wool one is also nicely neutral-colored (to match anything and appeal to a boy's dull sense of design) but has a fun pattern to keep me happy.
What is sisal, you ask. Well, sisal is made from the fibers of the agave plant, often from Kenya and Tanzania.
Why do I care about natural fibers? Why don't I buy a cheap floor rug from Target? Because most synthetic rugs emit VOC (Volatile organic compound) emissions. Plus, many synthetic rugs are made from nylon, acrylic, and uber-syllalabic words which mean they're icky.
However, the hard reality of my echoing wallet may force me to buy icky rugs. We shall see.
