Place Names

While I'm on the subject of and now Wisconsin (see comments for previous post), here' a list of some of my favorite place names in Wisconsin - most are favorites because they're fun to say ... not because they are, as places, fun. (hi, this is called procrastination, for those of you who don't know)

Wisconsin Place Names:

  • Oconomowoc (which is a city, town, village and lake)

  • Lodi (just like the CCR song!)

  • Kickapoo

  • Pewaukee (city and village)

  • Waldo (which is so small it doesn't even have a website or listing on the official State of Wisconsin website - the lack of such a listing leading the to entirely accidental query: "Where's Waldo?")

  • Oostburg (that's my favorite)

(Also: while there are 38 towns that begin with "s" - one of the most commonly used letters in the alphabet, there are 35 towns that begin with "w")

Waldo's not too far from Plymouth. When Where's Waldo was really popular, my babysitter's husband would always say in response to the question, "It's about ten miles west from here." Haha.

HA HA HA, "Oostburg" is soooo funny, just because it sounds Semetic, right? I bet you laughed yourself silly during Schindler's List.

Personally, I like St. Nazianz, WI. I'm not sure how that Rabbi will feel about that.
