Tech-Curse

I must have offended the Tech Gods because I think I've been cursed. Although this has, so far, not extended to my computer at work (please, no, oh mighty tech gods!) in my personal sphere, I have experienced some strange occurrences.

Many of you know that for the past several months my less-than-a-year-old cell phone has been temperamental. Sometimes it works perfectly. Other times - and these times were increasing in frequency - my phone was plagued by static, and I was muted. I could hear the other person clear as a bell, but they heard nothing from me.

It finally got to the point where I decided I had to do something. A couple weeks ago I took the phone back to the Verizon store. The help desk guy (sorry, I didn't get your name) was really nice and said he would download some updates that should help improve the service.

Yeah, that didn't work.

Last Wednesday I was back, and I talked to another service guy (who I think of as tall, skinny guy) who basically told me the same thing: "Come back in 20 minutes. I'll troubleshoot it and see what I can do."

But when I came back, he handed me a new phone! I made phone calls, and it worked! People could hear me! It was amazing.

Then on Sunday, while talking to Mom, she suddenly went silent. I looked at the phone; no, she hadn't hung up on me. The phone call was still going on. But I could hear nothing. I called her back: still nothing. She called me back, I heard her faintly, as if she were shouting to the speaker phone from across the street.

I tried calling Jon, who was standing right next to me. Over the phone, I heard nothing, not even the ringing of his cell phone.

So after checking all the options, (like, did I somehow have it on mute without knowing it?), I went back to the Verizon store. Tall skinny guy was there. "It's me again!" I said. "This time people can hear me, but I can't hear them."

He called himself to verify it. Then he opened up his supply cabinet. "I'm sorry, we're out of this model. We may get some in tomorrow. Call and check. If not, we'll ship one to you."

Just like that, another new phone.

And now my home computer (which is 6+ years old, I admit) won't connect to the wireless network and can't seem to connect to the power source).

I'm really sorry, Tech Gods, for whatever I did to displease you! But I think I've been punished enough. Honest. I respect you and recognize your powers. Please just let my phone work and breath life back to my old computer. Please!
