Hooray for Habitat

This week is the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project down on the Gulf Coast. I really wanted to go this year but the whole wedding thing kind of got in the way (financially more than anything else). Bummer.

(I did get to scratch my Habitat itch last weekend. I volunteered up in Lawrence with the Merrimack Valley Habitat for Humanity. Back in January a fire burned down an entire block - including 3 Habitat homes that were nearly ready for move-in. So the MVHFH mobilized in record time, and framing has started. I worked to install floor joists on two houses. I am still sore (it's been awhile since I wielded my framing hammer!) but I loved every second of it.)

However, my friend Sylvia is at the JRCWP. We were AmeriCorps volunteers together at the Greater Dallas Habitat for Humanity, and unlike me, she's still there! Sylvia is living proof that what you study in college doesn't really matter. She majored in Art History and is now the Manager of Field Operations for GDHFH.

And now she's famous. OK, well, not famous exactly. But she is featured in photo 6 of the Day 3 photos from the JRCWP. The photo is classic Sylvia: keeping track of tasks by writing them down on the blue board insulation already installed on the house.
