Hooray!
Next weekend Jon and I will take our first camping trip together! Wahoo.
I'm so excited. Not only is it nice to spend a couple days living out doors and communing with nature, but then you get to come home again to a soft bed and indoor plumbing. Excellent.
We'll spending the weekend at Pearl Hill State Park, located within Willard Brook State Forest (why a park within a park? I have no idea ....)
I can't wait ....

Ahhhh ..... Vacation
Considering that I just enjoyed a three day weekend like most of the country, you'd think I would be well rested and refreshed.
That's not how I felt this morning.
I felt rather exhausted! Why? I'm not sure, really. We did do a lot of running around from here to there, from party to cook-out (oh, poor us, I know), but still.
I'm not that old.
This morning as I readied myself for work, I realized that no amount of readying was going to allow me a productive day.
I love my job, and when I walk out the door I'm happy to go. Those rare mornings that I'm not happy to go? Seems to me it's a good idea to obey that instinct since it happens so rarely. I'm a big proponent of taking "mental health days." This seemed like one of those days.
It's 11:00 and I'm sitting in my pj's typing this and sipping iced coffee. There's a load of laundry to hang on the clothes line, and soon I'll get dressed, hop on my bike, and run some errands.
I feel much better.

Gone? Gone!
Good grief!
Lake Devlin, the lake that made Wisconsin Dells famous is gone. I'm probably the last person in the civilized world to have heard about it - but I'm going to blog about it anyway.
It's just crazy. How many Original Wisconsin Duck Tours did I take on that lake?
I'm flabbergasted. Not as much as the flopping carp on the empty lake bed, but still pretty stunned.
At least Noah's Ark is still there ....

Early Christmas
Just one more day of work. Wednesday I fly Midwest (hooray, best airline ever) to good ol' Green Bay, WI for a week-long vacation. Not only will we celebrate Dad's 60th birthday (a very young 60!) but we'll celebrate early Christmas!
Presents!
Hot chocolate!
Broiled grapefruit!
Christmas songs!
I can't wait.

Blog on a Stick!
My projects at work are rolling on as smoothly as possible ... August is notoriously difficult. Everyone's on vacation (except me, that is).
Having a little time this afternoon, I have finally uploaded photos from Milwaukee and the State Fair.
First, the guests of honor:

Now ..... the Fair:

Cheese on a stick!

Cheesecake on a stick!

Deep fried everything.
And, of course, animals ....

Moooooooooooo!

New Math
Doh!
I can't do math! I admit it. Actually, I can, which makes my math faux pas even worse ....... Oy!
2007 - 80 = 1927.
Duh.
What was I thinking?
Regardless of my inability to do math, my Milwaukee weekend was fabulous. It was so much fun .... I'll post more later (with pictures, of course!) but for now, I should get some work done (novel concept, I know).

Milwaukee - Here I Come!
Oh yes, that's right ... I'm going to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, home of Miller Beer, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Harley Davidson, Happy Days, and Lavern and Shirley.
It's just a quick weekend get-away. I fly out tonight at 8:20 p.m. and will be back in Boston by 9:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The occasion? Grandma and Grandpa Zanotelli (is that not a cool last name?) both turn 80 this year (I'll save you the math: they were born in 1923). Their present: all the family together for a Brewers game at Miller Stadium. The best part: they don't know all the grandchildren are coming. I'm part of the surprise! (I can reveal this because my grandparents don't even own a computer, let alone use the internet).
In addition to baseball, I plan to visit the art museum and attend the Wisconsin State Fair! It's been ages since I've been to the fair: cream puffs, pig races .... ah, yes. Quintessential Midwestern fun.

Vacation ... not in Wisconsin!
No offense.
We'll be staying at the Wild Iris Inn, located a couple blocks from the waterfront and the downtown district. More specifically, we'll be up on the 3rd floor in the cozy and cheerful Daisy Room.
I love visiting family and friends back in my home state. But I love traveling to new places ... and since moving to Massachusetts, almost all my traveling is back there. Not exactly new.
I am, therefore, very excited that I just booked three nights at a bed and breakfast in Portland, Maine.

Isn't it too cute? For Jon's sake - and my own, frankly - I did not choose one of the overwhelmingly pick rooms. We both like yellow and blue, and I thought that Jon could tolerate this decor.
I plan to have us spend most of our time exploring state parks, snapping pictures of light houses and ooh and awing at nature. I plan to scramble around on rocks, examine sea creatures in tidal pools, and breathe lots of fresh air.
I can't wait .....
