Oddly enough, the big meeting at the State House went swimmingly - except for that initial moment when I arrived on the beach and found the ocean had left.
What?!
Let's untangle the metaphor, shall we?
Everything went perfectly well. None of the things I worried about when wrong. But I did arrive at the State House and found the room empty. As in: no chairs, no table, no podium.
Empty. A beach without the ocean.
I held things together marvelously, I think. In a jiffy everything was put right, and except for a few staff members, nobody knew anything happened. Compliments have been pouring in all around (most not coming directly to me, because, like any good event planner, I was basically invisible during the event).
I am pleased - although I won't say that the months of headaches and stress-related freak-outs were really worth it. I don't know that I can say that.
Now I just need to find more volunteers so I don't spend two weeks straight scrubbing and painting the new house. It's fun work, and I like it, but my back and wrists and hands (carpel tunnel!) don't necessarily love it.
Ah well.

Kudos for a job extremely well done. You're right, the less people notice you, the better you did your job. You may have a knack for this. (Want to form an event planning company with me? We'd be amazing).
Anyway, I may have 2 more volunteers to help out on painting day. I think you're on your own with the cleaning, though.
