Drugs Currently in My System

I just swallowed 3 ibuprofin tablets (Wal-Profen, to be specific) and wondered (aloud) "how many drugs can I take at one time?"

This is what's currently in my system:

  1. Paxil (10 mg ... almost off it now)
  2. Welbutrin (100 mg)
  3. Wal-Profen (600 mg)
  4. Tylenol Cold Multi-Symptom SEVERE (yes, it has to be in bold italics like that) which contains:
    • acetaminophen (650 mg)
    • dextromethorphan (20 mg)
    • guaifenesin (400 mg)
    • pheylephrine (10 mg)

I don't think I'll be having a glass of wine with dinner tonight ....

Happy Valentines Day ..... blahhhhhh

I generally allow myself to be sick once during winter. But twice?

Yesterday afternoon I made the mistake of admitting to myself that I was feeling a little sub-weather. And once I admitted those physical feelings of "uckiness" it was all over. Mental powers are amazing.

I spend the night in achy, parched misery. My mind wandered all over the place; the topic I remember most clearly: Bush's "clean coal" declaration during the State of the Union.

You'd think I'd be over it be now .... the idiocy of standing in the entry way of a new centuary and proclaiming that coal - the harbringer of the Industrial Revolution - is the 21st century answer to energy.

Let's pretend that clean coal power works, that archaic power plants would not be grandfathered out of upgrading. I know, I know, it's hard to imagine. Just hang up your disbelief on the coat rack and come with me.

All you have to do is walk away from the "clean coal" power plants and witness the environmental raping of strip-mines and the less-than-stellar working conditions of coal mines (under the ground in dark tunnels - you can't get less stellar than that) to realize that "clean coal" is pure fantasy. Never mind the energy and fossil fuels it takes to mine the coal and deliever it to these fabulous clean coal power plants.

Now excuse me while I consume my 100th glass of water, blow my nose, an crawl into bed.

(and why doesn't spell check work on blogger? Now my misspelled underbelly is vulnerable and composed ....)

Christmas Protest

I would like to lodge a complain with whomever is responsible for making me ill nearly every Christmas.

I came down with a "thirsty throat" with a vengeance yesterday - and I believe I drunk at least a gallon of water, plus two mugs of tea, and a few glasses of seltzer water in an attempt to slake my thirst.

There is now also mucous involved, but I won't go in to that. At any hint of illness there is always mucous and phlegm ... disgusting!

Still, it is Christmas Eve, and I already opened one present: Season 1 of Little Mosque on the Prairie (thank you, CBC!).

Merry Christmas, all - or Seasons Greetings. Whatever you prefer!

I Have Persevered!

It is day 3 of me feeling better!

HA HA! Take that, gelatinous mass. I have vanquished thee!
You are no more, pulsating, multi-colored goo.

I win.

(Never fear, I have not yet disbanded my troops. The horrid creature feigned retreat once before and nearly slayed me. I shall keep a block of my finest assassins on hand, just in case.)

Meanwhile ... it's a gorgeous day and I shall walk home! I shall smile and breathe through my nose (ahhhh, the sweet, sweet smell of rush hour car exhaust).

Glad tidings to you all!
What ensured this day would be extra fine?

A bat, of course, sleeping in the Stonybrook T station.

Phlegm-tastic

Sometime - somewhere - between yesterday morning and this morning, I was body slammed by germs. I wish I could be more specific, a virus or bacteria but I can't. They're wearing those cliché face masks that bad guys wear when holding up a corner store.

I knew something wasn't quite right when I left work on Monday. I was ridiculously thirsty - encroaching Sahara Desert-like dryness. Sand dunes piling up in my throat.

Then, carrying one bag of groceries home nearly wiped me out. I wasn't sure if I would make it. I was crossing the Sahara with ten bags of groceries and no camel to help me.

Exhausted when I finally reached home, I decided not to go to knitting, although I had been looking forward to showing off the progress on my baby blanket. (I would post a pic, but I'm at home on a dial-up modem ... )

The unquenchable thirst continued, but I didn't feel bad. This morning, though, was another thing all together.

I was - still am - tired, achy, and full of phlegm. Brightly colored, fun-fetti (phugn-phegty) phlegm. Ugh.

Residing in my sinus cavities is a gelatinous, oozing creature. Slogging around with a gross sucking sound, it wallows in its oozing goo.

If I could just shove a crochet hook up my nose, I could pull it out - a pulsating, runny mass.

(Are you grossed out? I hope so.)

I could put in Tupperware and take it to some lab for testing. It could be a new life form.

After it was disposed of, I would inject my cavities and throat with some aloe vera cream in an attempt to satiate the raging thirst.

I also need a new bed - a pillow top with extra down padding. My usually comfortable bed may as well be a slab of concrete as far as my aching body is concerned (hence I'm sitting at the computer - it's the same level of discomfort).

There. I hope I've managed to spread a little self-pitying misery.
