Gone? Gone!

Good grief!

Lake Devlin, the lake that made Wisconsin Dells famous is gone. I'm probably the last person in the civilized world to have heard about it - but I'm going to blog about it anyway.

It's just crazy. How many Original Wisconsin Duck Tours did I take on that lake?

I'm flabbergasted. Not as much as the flopping carp on the empty lake bed, but still pretty stunned.

At least Noah's Ark is still there ....

Calm in a Crisis

This is the woman I want around when something goes wrong....

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. — Margaret Clemmons stood barefoot on the shoulder of a highway and stared at the floodwaters surrounding her home.

"I believe it's going to call for new carpets," she said.
Violent storms ... um, stormed through the Midwest yesterday. My dad called about 2:00 pm central time and said the sky was dark enough in Green Bay that the solar lights in the yard turned on.

But I have a feeling our carpets are just fine.

All I Want for Christmas is ...

Dry, warm feet!

As my day has mainly consisted of printing business cards, holiday cards, and designing Hearth address labels, I've had a bit of time to do on-line-window-shopping.

(What would you call that? Browsing, I suppose. But it's such an apt and compact pun that it's just no fun. Window shopping actually works as well, if you use Microsoft Windows [and who doesn't?]. But, again, it's rather obvious and dull. A topic for another time, I guess ....)

Anyway, my default winter boot maker is Sorel. It's what we hardy mid-Westerners wear. We go down to Fleet Farm (or Farm & Fleet, depending on which part of Wisconsin you inhabit) or Menard's ("Save good money at Menard's) and buy necessary items like snow boots, snow suits, snow shovels, snow blowers, snow tires, cow bells, etc ....

I have ventured to Zappos.com and bought my first pair of shoes/boots from there. They aren't Sorel, but Khombu. They got excellent reviews, and they seem a bit lighter and less clunkier than Sorels (I do have to treck to and from work, after all!).

I should get them in a couple of days. I hope they fit!
