Rampaging Metaphors

I've spent the afternoon attempting to draft a spring appeal letter ("it's spring, give us money") and I've got an out-of-control metaphor that has caused me to stop. If I kept writing it would only encourage it.

It's a gardening motif and I'm afraid it's growing like a weed and spreading faster than an invasive species!

I need some Round up and a pair of hedge trimmers, STAT.

But nothing stops a metaphor in its tracks like a close up of the sugar lamb!

WHACK! Take that.

Would you look at the noble expression on its face? You can also see the ragged scar of the missing ear really well from this angle.

What do you think the sugar lamb is thinking ... ?
