I'm not 10 anymore

Not to state the obvious or anything, but I'm not a kid anymore. This simple fact was illuminated to great effect last night when I put on a pair of rollarskates for the first time in over a decade.

Unlike riding a bike - which, once learned you don't forget - rollar skating has to be relearned.

I'm proud to say I never fell nor did I rely heavily on the railing around the edge of the rink. But I did spend a lot of time blurting out "Whoa!" and spasmadically throwing my arms around attempting to stay balanced.

This morning my legs ache (adult rollar skates are heavy to lug around), but at least I don' t have a bruised arse.

Unrelated Amusing Tidbit
I've been working at the new housing site almost nonstop. One of my projects is refinishing the baby grand piano the previous owners left us. I have learned important life lessons from this project:

1. Don't spend ridiculous time and energy refinishing a piano so that it looks just like that: refinished. Especially when refinishing involves an intricit faux finish aimed at looking like honey-colored wood. Because that's what it will look like. Not like honey-colored wood but faux honey-colored wood. Who ever previously refinished the piano painstakingly did just this. Ouch.

2. Lose something? Look in the piano. Items found: pennies, Christmas tinsel, eraser, and fragments from a dried flower arrangement. And lots of dust. Lots of dust.

3. Do not ever -- I repeat, ever -- let an uskilled volunteer attempt to paint the piano. It will only cause you grief.

Has a man named Isaac Goldstein been here? I have not seen him in a while.
