I went online to look up something work related but was immediatly sidetracked (after a virtual thwack to the head) by this headline from the Irish Examiner:
"Sex slaves 'were not coerced' says Japanese Prime Minister"
Leave aside basic facts of this story:
- That the Japanese PM actually said that;
- that this now digs up highly repelent history for Japan that I'm sure they would have rather left buried;
- that over 100 former sex slaves of WWII are going to be harassed endlessly for the next few weeks by a disgusting media frenzy;
- that there's only one plus side: that the subject of women and sexual exploitation will gain needed exposure - at least for a few days - to help the thousands - millions? - of poor women still basically sex slaves.
How could anyone - anyone - see that headline and not read that story (be it turn the page, turn up the volume, or click on a link). Absolutely outstanding. Not that the copywriter really deserves much credit. The headline is pretty obvious. Still. Pretty good.
