"Fun Things You Can Make with Kleenex"

The title for this entry comes from the book The Devil in the Details by Jennifer Traig. It is the "memoir" about her childhood (I put memoir in quotes because she's not much older than me, but I don't know what else you would call it) : growing up in an "interfaith family"--Jewish and Catholic--in rural California during the late 70s and 80s, and suffering from extreme OCD.

(My roommate K. lent it to me Monday night, and unfortunately I already finished it on the train this morning--and still had time for a nap! I don't know what I'll read on the train home. I might have to read a newspaper!)

If you're ever wondering how normal you really are--if you ever have any doubts--this book will make you feel incredibly sane and ordinary in comparison. In between chapters she also includes "Interstitials" (short and sweet definition: "something in between." Longer definition: "a page/pages that is/are inserted in the normal flow of editorial content structure."). These interstitials are fun little things like "A Guide to Proper Hand-Washing Technique" and "My Sister's Room is the Gateway to Death: A Two-Column Proof."

It's absolutely hilarious (in a sort of painful way. I couldn't help but pity/empathize with her), and I highly recommend it.
