Yesterday Jon and I went to see The Squid and the Whale at the Embassy in Waltham. Originally we planned to see Capote, but Squid jived better with our time table.
I'm so glad we ended up seeing the Squid and the Whale! It was great. It was, as I state in the title of this post, "the filet of movies." Jeff Danial's character the unbelievably pretensious and self-absorbed professor/writer Bernard Berkman. He uses the phrase "the filet of" and it just cracks me up.
The older son, Walt, in the process of finding himself, chooses his father to emulate, and in the course of trying to impress a girl, describes the Metamorphosis as "kafkaesque." Sheila, the girl, looks at him askance. "Of course it's kafkaesque. Kafka wrote it."
Priceless.
This is a filet of a movie, and I highly recommend it. Highly. Very, very highly.
