Today as we scrambled around trying to get everything in place for Annual Meeting on Wednesday (and at the same time getting those damn appeal letters out) various odd phrases were heard around the office (most of them coming out of my mouth, I suppose) such as:
"Can you rent an easel?"
"I think a purple, sparkly music stand might be too funky for the State House."
"Who is Bob Swift?"
I have one complaint: If you receive an invitation and it says to RSVP to a specific person, then RSVP to that person! Telling some other random person you're planning to attend "my" meeting does not assure you of a name tag or chair. Also, if you are that random person who has been told that so-and-so is attending, then please pass that on to me. It's all I ask. Follow directions.
I swear, the best training anyone in a management position can ever have is to be a kindergarten teacher (or playspace activity leader). I'm finding that most grown-ups never learn how to read or follow directions. I just don't understand....
OK, well, I was up until 12:30am sorting annual appeal notes and letters, and while I hope I'm not up that late again, it's a definite possibility.
