Plastic Distraction

Hey, that's a good name for a band, don't you think?

Now that I'm free of the clutches of the annual meeting, I can devote myself to Christmas! And Christmas means shopping and knitting. Somehow I found the time to knit myself a hat, but unfortunately it ended up too big--as in pull the hat down to my chin big. But I have faith that somewhere there is a person who can where the hat.

However now that the hat is out of the way, I can move on to new projects! This past weekend Jon introduced me to Trident Bookseller on Newbury Street (like I needed to find another bookstore in Boston). We spent over an hour browsing its cramped isles, but I found the coolest knitting book: Simple Knits with a Twist by Erika Knight. Instead of the usual sweater, scarves, and hat patterns, she offers interesting ideas using a variety of materials other than yarn. My new project invovles cutting up plastic bags into ribbon strips and the knitting the strips into a tote bag.

She also has a project that involves knitting yarn remnants into strips and weaving them into floor rugs. These are my kinds of projects that allow for a lot of creativey and really inspire you to think outside of the knitting bag.
