Inspiration

Those of you who knew me in high school might recall my love of collecting quotes. Well, while looking for a quote about volunteering to put on my organization's webpage (in the midst of website updates and renovations) I found this one by Susan J. Ellis. I can't really use it on work's site, but I can share it here.

Paul Revere earned his living as a silversmith. But what do we remember him for? His volunteer work. All activism is volunteering in that it's done above and beyond earning a living and deals with what people really care passionately about. Remember, no one gets paid to rebel. All revolutions start with volunteers.

Volunteers rock!

I just want you to know, Jenny, that you're the meaning in my life. You're the inspiration.

Speaking of quotes, I just read this really cool young adult book (a Printz winner too!) that you might enjoy -- Looking for Alaska by John Green. The main character collects people's last words -- and the one featured somewhat prominently is from Gabriel Garcia Marquez's The General in His Labyrinth. The story is a little dark towards the end, but it's still a darn good read. John Green's other book, An Abudance of Katherines is funnier and I'd recommend it too.
